Kerplink, Kerplank, Kerplunk…

Blueberry season has begun!

Every morning around 7, my Assistant hops out of bed, gets dressed – that was HER choice of outfit, by the way, right down to her “funny floppy hat” – grabs her pail and makes a beeline for the bushes at the edge of the pond.

“That one’s tomorrow, this one’s today!”

She’s getting better at knowing the difference.

Drop it in the pail, kerplink!

They don’t stay in the pail for long…

If I’m ever going to have enough for another batch of jam, or even muffins, I’m going to have to think about planting more bushes.

“One for you, Grandmom. But just ONE…”

  1. Congretulations little girl ! You have the sense of the beauty by your dresscode for the garden….and the sense of the good in tasting the product !…..

  2. As soon as I saw the kerplunk, I knew you were talking blueberries. Love the blues, the greens and the pinks (from hat to toes).

  3. She’s such a cutie, Marie. And your pic of her walking barefoot towards the blueberry bushes (presumably), is easily one of your best. A little girl going berry picking. If that’s not summer, I don’t know what is.

    • There are so many moments when the camera is just out of reach, that catching one is rare. I love this one, too…
The blackberries will be less enchanting. She’s never encountered thorns before.

    • Kind of… they turn purple if you pick them a little bit green, but they don’t get any sweeter. The only way to fully ripen them on the bush for maximum sugar is to have a cage or a net over them to keep the birds out.
