Someone had a birthday last Friday…
Let me tell you – the Grownup Way of celebrating birthdays didn’t exactly sit well with the Junior Members around here.
The first inkling came two weeks ago, when Grandad took Angel on an Adventure. They were going to have lunch out at a restaurant, and find Grandmom a birthday present (and give me a few hours of peace and quiet in the process).
Later, when I was helping her get ready for her rest, I asked how it went:
“Did you have a good time with Grandad?”
“Yee-es…” she answered slowly. A worried look crossed her face. “But, Grandmom! We never even went to the toy store!”
“No! We just got you earrings!”
(They’re lovely earrings, by the way…but they’re not the Toy Dinosaur That You Can Put in the Garden and Sit On that Angel had imagined as the Perfect Gift.)
There was cake, at least. And a house full of company, all weekend long. But no balloons. No party hats. Even Niko wanted to know where the hats were…
The disappointment didn’t last long.
No One can be un-cheered with a Niko around!
There was much laughter and love.
And flying stuffed animals.
That’s a good representative shot of most of what I got last weekend – one grandchild in-focus, the other a blur. Although there are many, many two-blur shots as well…
Don’t let them fool you – this is a pretend nap.
Thanks, all of you. It was the very best birthday I could have asked for!
