Birthday Chaos

Yummy Cake!

Someone had a birthday last Friday…

Let me tell you – the Grownup Way of celebrating birthdays didn’t exactly sit well with the Junior Members around here.

The first inkling came two weeks ago, when Grandad took Angel on an Adventure. They were going to have lunch out at a restaurant, and find Grandmom a birthday present (and give me a few hours of peace and quiet in the process).

Later, when I was helping her get ready for her rest, I asked how it went:

“Did you have a good time with Grandad?”

“Yee-es…” she answered slowly. A worried look crossed her face. “But, Grandmom! We never even went to the toy store!”

“You didn’t?”

“No! We just got you earrings!”

(They’re lovely earrings, by the way…but they’re not the Toy Dinosaur That You Can Put in the Garden and Sit On that Angel had imagined as the Perfect Gift.)

Cake, kid-style

There was cake, at least. And a house full of company, all weekend long. But no balloons. No party hats. Even Niko wanted to know where the hats were…

Little Man and Cake

The disappointment didn’t last long.

No One can be un-cheered with a Niko around!

A typical shot

There was much laughter and love.

And flying stuffed animals.

That’s a good representative shot of most of what I got last weekend – one grandchild in-focus, the other a blur. Although there are many, many two-blur shots as well…

A rare, still moment

Don’t let them fool you – this is a pretend nap.

Thanks, all of you. It was the very best birthday I could have asked for!

  1. Hmmm… earrings or a sit on dinosaur – must have been a tricky decision! Good to hear you enjoyed your birthday – and sending a belated ‘Happy Birthday’ to you!

  2. Wishing you a belated happy birthday Marie – I’m with Angel on the choice of present – the “Toy Dinosaur That You Can Put in the Garden and Sit On ” sounds a perfect garden seat-present-toy-ornament 🙂

  3. Now that’s a birthday! Sounds like you had a wonderful time, Marie. Belated happy birthday!
I’m starting a pool, by the way, to see who can guess how long it will be before a Toy Dinosaur That You Can Put in the Garden and Sit On finds its way to your house. No, you’re ineligible as are all family members and anyone caught coaching Angel.

  4. Happy Birthday, Marie! The cake looks yummy, and it seems like it was all-around fun. But I have to agree with Angel. There should be a toy of some kind. 🙂

  5. Well, Happy Birthday!! Hahahaha – it is all about perspective, isn’t it? Glad you got some earrings you liked and a couple house of quiet time too!

  6. Happy birthday for the other day, how wonderful to have both your grandchildren so close to you (some closer than others) both geographically and emotionally. I love the blurred shots, focus is overrated!!.. c
